Closed road circuit, skidpan and rain. It is going to awesome!

First Nugget Nationals motorkhana event held at METEC in Kilsyth just 15 minutes from home!

My best lap for the day at 1:35 on a RaceChrono track I whipped up whilst sitting in the car being anti-social and staying out of the rain.

It was surprisingly easy to make and worked really well. Though I had trouble uploading it to share.

I am pretty hopeless on the skidpan. But it was so much fun regardless! Thanks Jally for the external footage.

VSC Mode vs Traction Off mode.

Floodway. Close enough.

Lots of 86 mates!

Indian file run through the course. It was a slow cruise *waits for slow twins jokes*

The skid pan! I need one of these!

Weather for the most part of the day. Quite scenic.

I might be in front, but I'm miles behind.

Should have closed my window. Rookie mistake.

Some people take photos of their clean cars...

... I take photos of her dirty

A bit of homework the night before. Just an excuse to draw cock & balls.

Pedal Dance They Said...

This is only 5 months late, but after looking at the pics and vids, it was like it happened... well 5 months ago!

At this particular Winton there were no material changes to the car. Just hoping to get out there and improve my driving and as always aiming for a PB.

PB! Found another 0.2 seconds bringing to 1:43.104 (from 1:43.372)

Footage this time was using my dashcam A118C B40C with sound disabled because I forgot to turn on the GoPro and didn't have sound enabled on the dashcam. Footage came out better than expected, but a few notches lower in quality compared to the GoPro. Enjoy the tunes!

Decided to pedal dance (Thanks PeterF for the tip) and this was the result! Des was following me so the other in car view is how he saw it

How did it feel? Unsure if placebo, but the rear definitely felt livelier then just Traction Off.  Would I do it again? Yup! I definitely feel like there's more to it.

Did you ever wonder what your optimal PB lap on RaceChrono would look like?
So did I, so I made this to see what me doing a 1:42.36 by stitching the different sector vids together.

Blue (Old) vs Red (New): Looks like the 0.2 was found in the final 2 right handers going into the back straight
Red 1:43.104
Blue 1:43.372

Collected a bit of dust with that pedal dance-off

I nearly merged into this guy at the freeway entrance at Springvale Rd! Ended up cruising together to Wallan BP.

Heading towards PBs*
(*Artist impression, no one was using a camera whilst driving)

Thank you Winton Motor Raceway! Too polite!

Always good to see GTRs and other 86s on the track

Same destination after all.

More mates

Not sure about the colour, but don't mind the brakes

Tom's! Just 'mirin.

Single Conversion!

... Single oil cooler banjo conversion even 😆

Being unhappy about the lack of clearance with the oil cooler fittings around the air box and hardline, I did some research and found I could convert the fittings to a banjo fitting to give myself some more wriggle room.

The replacement parts:

  • 1x -10AN Banjo Adapter To 1/2" BSP (Link)
  • 1x -10AN 90 Degree Male to Female Adapter (Link)

The issue...

The problem out front: Fittings basically touch the air box and come quite close to the oil cap.

The problem out back: Thermostat even shaved comes way too close to this hard line

The solution...

Left: -10AN Banjo Adapter To 1/2" BSP
Right: -10AN 90 Degree Male to Female Adapter

The first challenge was finding a big enough hex key to fit the banjo...

Fellow BRZ mate lent me his hex keys. 10mm was the biggest one, but nope, too small.

Track mate lends me his hex keys and 12mm fit like a charm.

Removed the air box. Almost forgot I got a K&N filter. Must be worth a fraction of a kw?..

Removed the original Mocal fitting to be replaced with the banjo

Eye ball says they're both 1/2" BSP... Find out soon enough..

The -10AN ends of the fittings. Less concerned about this end.

A bit of Lego'ing later, it all fit together ok!

Clearance between the fitting and oil filter. Much less concerned about this than the air box and hard line.

The damage done to the back of the air box

Plenty of clearance around the oil cap and the thermostat has been rotated well away from the hard line

And the fittings no longer need to touch the air box

After a start up test and drive around the block with no leaks I'm happy with how it all turned out

Aiya! Modbox Winton 5.5

A slightly more expensive Winton event hosted by Modbox but because the original organiser couldn't run it, EXE-Jally steps in and takes over like a boss! And it was slightly more expensive because of the lower car limit (50?) and promise of more track time. Works in theory but we had some mechanical failures and a car fire which slowed things up.

PB! Found another 0.3 seconds bringing to 1:43.372 (from 1:43.677)

Random clips of things-other-than-PBs happening on track.

Lots of happy laps, but probably no more than a trouble-free EXE day.

Higher vmaxs in all sectors except the final one compared to last time. The 42's are in sight....

Overall smoother and quicker transition from braking to throttle

Another 4:30AM departure for a 8:00AM arrival

I wonder if car detailing enthusiasts wash behind their number plates?

Kam brought the S15 this time. Made for good PB battles with the BRZ.

Oil cooler AN fitting temps. The oil inside is ~90 C deg.

A tad warm. WTB brake cooling kit.

Dusty wheels from going on an off road adventure

Corgi Racing! ... Probably not the fastest racing team around 😹

Does anyone know how to un-collapse the jerry cans when they suck themselves in?...

Gogogo!

WTB Porsche!

Mother nature was kind to us again! Thanks m'aam!

Chasing them Porsches

It was a bit HK-nats. Unfortunately the culture of rudeness came with it. e.g. leaning on & leaving rubbish on other people's cars 😡

Mostly stock and does 1:38's 🙌

Having big front brakes help...

...and matching rears

Child seat fits in the back! No cage for me then.

Tofu car!

Mates!

Just a few Hondas

New Type R fresh off the showroom floor

.... x2 !

These things look so beasty!

... and a few more Hondas

Is someone having a BBQ? ... Nope, someone having an engine fire

Random engine bay shot

Mmmm CF wing

That intake..!

Balling in the Merc.

Pre-grid

Full tank from Wallan BP on the way up + 2 collapsed jerry cans and get back with fuel light
